How Motorcycles Fit into the Future of Transportation
Posted on 3/22/2019 10:20:06 AM

As time goes on, our world changes, and with it, so do many aspects of our daily lives. This especially includes transportation. While we can likely expect to see changes in transportation as time goes on, whether that’s in mass transit, solo travel, the movement of goods and cargo across the country, or, most likely, all of the above, there’s one thing we can be fairly sure of: motorcycles aren’t going anywhere.

Future of Transportation

The UN estimates that 68 percent of people will live in urban areas by 2050, which is 2.5 billion more people than live in urban areas currently. This increase in urban populations creates needs and places strain on a number of aspects of urban living, including transportation and requisite resources.

While electric cars are considered by some to be the future of transportation, they share some of the same drawbacks as conventional vehicles: they’re expensive, they take up space, they consume energy (although differently than conventional vehicles). It’s clear that electric cars, while an important shift for a number of reasons, aren’t the only answer to growing and diversifying transportation demands.

Connected Vehicles

An estimated 21 million connected vehicles are on the road today, and that number will only increase as older vehicles are phased out and newer ones are phased in. These connected vehicles are constantly collecting on their drivers, the trips they take and more.

Harley-Davidson Models of the Future

How They Update the Past

Over the years, Harley-Davidson has expanded its offering of bike models, for a number of reasons, including embracing the diverse interests of younger and newer riders and offering bikes that will take riders into the future of transportation. This includes Harley’s new all-electric bike, the LiveWire, as well as a number of other models. The Pan America, for example, is Harley’s first ever adventure bike. The Streetfighter, the first non-cruiser line since Buell, is another example of Harley-Davidson’s foray into sportier bikes, with an anticipated launch in 2021. Another new model, the Custom, is similar to the Sportster model, but redesigned for a 21st century aesthetic.

Motorcycles of the Future: Embracing Diversity

In addition to diversifying options for new Harley enthusiasts, these new Harley models will allow you to find the Harley that best suits your purposes in the future.

If you’re not considering buying a new bike any time soon, or are worried about a possible lack of customization options on the new bikes, don’t fret. If you already have a Harley, or aren’t interested in the departure of the newer models, Buell parts and components, like other Harley models, allow you to update your Buell bike incrementally, so you can change it up as time goes on. That won’t end with the classic models, though:a wide variety of Harley Davidson accessories will be available for the Streetfighter will provide customization options for anyone interested in a Harley that isn’t a cruiser.

No matter what the future of transportation looks like, you can be sure that there’s a Harley ready to help you cruise into it.
